I have refurbished the subframe for the pedals and master cylinders as homework. Here is the subframe reassembled with the brake master cylinder nearest the camera. This is new whilst the clutch master cylinder on the far side is refurbished. The steering column is supported by this subframe when in the car.

This is, of course, a right-hand-drive car, and this subframe will look rather strange to my American and Continental readers!

On my last trip down to Kent I replaced the front struts and started renewing the brake pipes. This is a view of the underside at the rear (without the engine and gearbox) and the nice shiny new copper pipes can be seen in the gloom. The sub-frame has been cleaned and treated to a couple of coats of POR 15 Chassis Coat Black.

It seems that copper is outlawed in several countries around the world, there’s more on this on my Brakes page.

I also cleaned up the gearbox and fitted a new clutch slave cylinder. It needs a new hydraulic line which will be tricky as it’s a larger diameter than the normal brake lines. I’m wondering if I might need a new starter motor!
